Making It Work: Critical Practices for Boards of Trustees
A Series of Workshops Offered by Sturgis Charter Public School
During the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 School Years

The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association and Sturgis Charter Public School are pleased to have offered, and continue to offer, a series of workshops for charter school leaders and board members. In these workshops, leaders from Sturgis share successful board practices in three critical areas:

Building an Effective Governance Structure
Board Roles and Responsibilities toward the School Leader
Systems That Work - How Boards Ensure Accountability

As part of the workshops, Sturgis has offered attendees binders with a number of documents important to the school's governance practices. We are happy to make many of these documents available here, on the MCPSA Web site. A wide range of tremendously useful documents appear on these pages. You'll find information on recruitment of board members, hiring and evaluating the school leader, reporting, and accountability. You'll be able to view retreat guidelines, descriptions of committee responsibilities, sample meeting agendas, and much more.

It is our hope that by sharing the exemplary governance practices and governance-related documents of Sturgis Charter Public School, we can help charter schools manage governance efficiently and effectively. We invite you to browse, utilize, and adapt the documents that appear here.
