Massachusetts Charter Public School Association

The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association (MCPSA) is a school-based membership association representing its constituents, the charter public schools in the Commonwealth. Our mission is to serve, support, and advocate for Massachusetts charter public schools as they strive to achieve the goals of their charters.

MCPSA formed in June of 2000, and 2001 proved to be a year of milestones. Our Board of Directors held its first meeting. MCPSA became a private corporation and hired Dr. Marc Kenen as Executive Director. We launched our first membership drive, and the IRS granted our association 501 (c) (3) status. In January of 2002, MCPSA achieved a critical goal: 100% of Massachusetts charter schools as dues paying members. In 2004, MCPSA expanded to include a partner 501 (c) (3), TAP, our Technical Assistance Program. And in 2007, MCPSA opened its resource center, the Massachusetts Center for Charter Public School Excellence (MCCPSE).

Today nearly all 61 Massachusetts charter public schools continue to be dues paying members, and a democratically elected Board of Directors, which meets quarterly and consists of 15 charter public school leaders, actively governs our association.
